Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to combine economic, sociological, philosophical and psychological knowledge to substantiate the metaverse, determine its main contradictions and ways to solve them, characterize the current stage of development of the metaverse and forms of alienation in it. In this article, the metaverse is considered as a space of convenience, increasing speed, flexibility, and certainty in satisfying consumer desires through the provision of services. The starting point of the work is the study of the metaverse as a space of processive consumption in the conditions of paternalistic influence of technology. To substantiate the emergence of the metaverse as a space for meeting needs on the non-market, paternalistic principles of marketing influence, the logical-historical methodology for studying the development of economic systems was used. On this basis, the paper shows the cornerstone subjective contradiction of the metaverse, which unfolds along the line of interaction of its main actors – agents and users, which consists in the clash of temporal motivations of operational activity in the metaverse. The article describes the special mechanisms of information management and marketing strategies of the metaverse; tendencies of leveling of evolutionarily capable components of human sociality are revealed; the processes of formation of artificial subjectivity and neutralization of human subjectivity are shown. On the basis of J. Baudrillard’s methodological approaches, the following forms of alienation in the metaverse have been identified: 1) fetishization of the consumer item, putting it on a pedestal, proclamation of the secondariness of everything else inherent in the human essence, but not related to consumption; 2) retreat into the virtual world of consumption; 3) rejection of subjectivity to maximize the satisfaction of needs in the world of consumption. As a result of the research, the positive effects of the existence of the metaverse and its risks have been identified.

Keywords: metaverse, research methodology, processive consumption, subjective contradiction of the metaverse, forms of alienation in the metaverse.
